Counselors CornerProfile 2007-08Community Information: Limon is a rural community with a population of 2,000 located 90 miles east of Denver on I-70. Due to the Limon intersection of many highways near the town limits, Limon is known as the Hub City. The Limon community is supported by the following industries, State Department of Corrections, Lincoln Community Hospital, agriculture, and several service oriented businesses.
Schools: Limon’s school district consists of one elementary, one middle school, and one senior high school. The average enrollment from year to year is 476.5.
Curriculum Features: Limon offers a college preparatory program including English, Math, Social Studies, and Science classes at all levels. The school offers some specialty elective classes in Industrial Arts, Fine Arts, Accounting, Spanish, French, Speech and Newspaper.
Post-Secondary Option: Limon High School, in cooperation with Morgan Community College offers a Post-Secondary Option for Juniors and Seniors who demonstrate a high degree of academic maturity and responsibility. Students who are on schedule to fulfill graduation requirements and want to be academically challenged are encouraged to participate in the Post-Secondary Option, which concurrently awards high school and college credit upon successful completion of coursework.
Extra-Curricular Activity Information: Elementary: music programs, kids council, beginning band. Juniors have the option of taking the PSAT. The MAP – Measures of Academic Progress is given to grades 2-11 annually. College classes that are taken for duplicate credit do not carry any additional weight when factored into the student’s grade point average.
