School History
| The current elementary
building was built in 1923. The first Limon High School (built as
a three story building in 1912) was replaced by the current high
school in 1962. Both schools have undergone significant changes
since being built, including having their heating, ventilation,
updated and air conditioning systems modernized during the summer
of 2002. |

| 1916
was the first graduating class and consisted of four students.
That year there were 29 students in the high school (seven
juniors, six sophomores, and twelve freshmen). Over the past four
years, more than sixty percent of our graduating classes have
received scholarships, including one student receiving the coveted
Boettcher Scholarship and one student received a full academic
scholarship to Harvard University. Thirteen Limon Public Schools
teachers have also been recognized statewide for educational
accomplishments. |

| The Limon Board
of Education and staff have committed to striving toward being
"The Power of the Plains" is evidenced by their
commitment to listening to community members and education experts
involved in the testing process who say that a combination of
events make for a successful school experience; including a high
percentage of math and science teachers with a bachelor’s or
master’s degree in the subject they teach, professional
development that is transferred into meaningful lessons and
pinpointing what students should be learning. |

develop a number of programs designed to guide students to
excellence. Among these are extremely strong content area
curricula in math, English, science, social studies, and foreign
language. Limon Public Schools is also well known for its
technology, industrial arts, music, physical education and art
programs. |

| Limon Public
Schools history would not be complete without particular attention
being paid to its athletic accomplishments. Limon’s teams have
won the state championship 36 times. These teams have won the
state championship 13 times in track, 14 times in football, four
times in volleyball, and the boy’s basketball team has “brought
home the gold” while the girl’s won back to back the 2002 and
2003 title. |
