School History

The current elementary building was built in 1923. The first Limon High School (built as a three story building in 1912) was replaced by the current high school in 1962. Both schools have undergone significant changes since being built, including having their heating, ventilation, updated and air conditioning systems modernized during the summer of 2002.

1914 was the first graduating class and consisted of one student.

Limon Public Schools history would not be complete without particular attention being paid to its athletic accomplishments. Limon’s teams have won the state championship 51 times. Limon has won the Class 2A Sportsmanship State Champion and three times won the coveted Wells Fargo Cup for High School Athletics in Class 2A.  Limon athletes have also won over 141 individual state champions in Boys’ & Girls’ Track, Wrestling, & Speech.
