Seniors all have mailboxes in the counseling office that need to be checked on a regular basis.

 

If you would like to request an application please call me at 775-2350 ext 321; I will put the applications for local scholarships in mailboxes as well as the requests I receive from students and parents.

 Check out the Coffee for a Cause

            Community Service Scholarship Program.

All students will receive a scholarship based upon individual performance.  For each bag of coffee sold by the student, $3.50 will be donated to the student’s charity and $1.00 will be awarded to the student for financial assistance to attend the college of their choice.  Each student is also eligible for the Just Java Scholarship Program based upon total donations.

Mountain View Electric Scholarship

        Ten $1000 scholarship will be award to students who plan to attend a college, university, junior college or community college.

        One $1000 scholarship will be given to a student who plans to attend a vocational/technical school or a community or junior college.

The deadline for submitting applications for all MVEA sponsored scholarships is January 15th.

The Danforth Scholars Program

The Danforth Scholars Program at Washington University in St. Louis honors the student who embraces high ideals, whose life choices are guided by personal integrity, selflessness, a commitment to community, and a dedication to leadership and academic excellence.  The Danforth Scholars may receive full or partial tuition scholarships.  Washington University in St. Louis is a private, independent institution, serving approximately 6,000 undergraduate and 6,000 graduate and professional students each year.  If you are a student interested in Washington University please see Mrs. Bandy so you can apply for this scholarship.

 

Gates Millennium Scholars Program

One thousand students will be selected based on the following eligibility criteria:

Are African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American

Are a citizen, legal permanent resident or national of the United States

Have attained a cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale or earned a GED

Will be enrolling for the first time at a U.S. accredited college or university as full-time, degree-seeking, first-year student in the fall of 2009

Have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular or other activities

Meet the Federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria.

Have all three required forms (nominee Personal Information Form, Nominator Form, and Recommender Form) completed and submitted by the deadline.

The on-line scholarship application is open for the 2009 selection process.  We highly recommend that nomination forms are submitted online.  Scholarship applications must be submitted online by January 12, 2009 at 11:59 p.m. EST or the paper application postmarked on or before January 12, 2009. 

Youth Tobacco Advocate Scholarship

Any Colorado sophomore, junior or senior who has written an original, published newspaper article about tobacco education.

Application materials must be postmarked by December for fall and May for spring.

Horatio Alger Association

        This scholarship program provides financial assistance to students throughout the nation who have financial need and have exhibited integrity and perseverance in overcoming personal adversity.  Scholarship criteria also includes high school graduation spring/summer of 2009, commitment to pursue a bachelor’s degree, and United States citizenship.  The scholarships are given to deserving students each year and range in award value from $2,500 to $20,000.  To apply for the Horatio Alger Scholarship Programs, the application must be completed by October 30, 2008 at www.horatioalger.org/scholarships.

FYI on CU-Boulder’s New Admission Process

       You can check it out on the Counselor page on their site, but here are the details in a nutshell:

Students can apply “Early Action” through December 15th.  Those who apply early in the cycle can expect a letter of decision starting Dec. 16th.

The “Colorado Guarantee” will still be in place, but students will be required to write the two short essays that are a part of the application.

Students who apply late in the Early Action cycle will be notified by Feb. 15th.

Students who apply in the Early Action cycle will be accepted, deferred to the regular cycle, or denied.

The “regular admission” cycle will be open from Dec. 16th to Feb. 15th and students can expect a decision by April 1st.

Seniors need to see Mrs. Bandy for senior interviews.  Through this interview, we will discuss college or career and those options.  After the interview takes place, a packet will be mailed home with the selected colleges.  This packet will contain applications or website addresses, deadline dates, scholarship information, as well as general information on each college.  This is to assist students with their applications and scholarships.

Department of the Navy

NROTC scholarship is a four-year scholarship that can be worth up to $180,000.  It covers full tuition, books, fees, uniforms and a monthly stipend starting at $250.00.  In addition to the 4-year NROTC general scholarship, there is also a 4-year Nursing Scholarship for students wanting to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).  After completion of a Bachelor Degree, the students enters the Navy as a commissioned officer in occupations such as engineering, aviation, or nursing.
